The Advanced Photon Source Injector Test Stand Control System
نویسنده
چکیده
The Advanced Photon Source (APS) primary and backup injectors consist of two thermionic-cathode rf guns. These guns are being upgraded to provide improved performance, to improve ease of maintenance, and to reduce downtime required for repair or replacement of a failed injector. As part of the process, an injector test stand is being prepared. This stand is effectively independent of the APS linac and will allow for complete characterization and validation of an injector prior to its installation into the APS linac. A modular control system for the test stand has been developed using standard APS control solutions with EPICS to deliver a flexible and comprehensive control system. The modularity of the system will allow both future expansion of test stand functionality and evaluation of new control techniques and solutions.

An Operator Training Facility at the Advanced Photon Source*
The Advanced Photon Source (APS), a premier thirdgeneration synchrotron radiation source, presently operates in top-up mode during most user run time. During top-up mode, charge is injected into the storage ring at approximately 2-minute intervals to stabilize the stored beam current to within 0.1%. Top-up mode requires the dedicated use of the entire APS injector system, severely limiting time...

An S-band linear accelerator is the source of particles and the front end of the Advanced Photon Source [1] injector. In addition, it supports a low-energy undulator test line (LEUTL) and drives a free-electron laser (FEL). A waveguide-switching and distribution system is now under construction. The system configuration was revised to be consistent with the recent change to electron-only operat...
متن کاملRf System Upgrades to the Advanced Photon Source Linear Accelerator in Support of the Fel Operation
The S-band linear accelerator, which was built to be the source of particles and the front end of the Advanced Photon Source [1] injector, is now also being used to support a low-energy undulator test line (LEUTL) and to drive a free-electron laser (FEL). The more severe rf stability requirements of the FEL have resulted in an effort to identify sources of phase and amplitude instability and im...
متن کاملOperation of the Aps Rf Gun
The Advanced Photon Source (APS) has a thermioniccathode rf gun system capable of providing beam to the APS linac. The gun system consists of a 1.6-cell thermionic-cathode rf gun, a fast kicker for beam current control, and an alpha magnet for bunch compression and injection into the APS linac line. This system is intended for use both as an injector for positron creation, and as a first beam s...

Last year a second-generation SSRL-type thermionic cathode rf gun was installed in the Advanced Photon Source (APS) linac. This gun (referred to as “gun2”) has been successfully commissioned and now serves as the main injector for the APS linac, essentially replacing the Koontz-type DC gun. To help ensure injector availability, particularly with the advent of top-up mode operation at the APS, a...
